Both Hindi and Nepali use Devanagari script so a Hindi reader can read Nepali as well. As many Hindi and Nepali words originated from Sanskrit, most Hindi speakers can also understand it - although most of them pretend as if they do not understand it.
For the westerner, in comparison to other languages, the Nepali language is quite difficult to learn because it has many vowels and consonants. Besides, it has different and difficult syntax compared to English.
However, for South Asians and those who are familiar with Hindi and Bengali language, Nepali is easier as it is derived from the Sanskrit language.
